BLUE NOTES FOR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2007
This evening, we welcome two more of the eight semifinal candidates
to conduct rehearsals of both Gloria and Elijah.
All members are again asked to complete the evaluation forms they have
been given. Here are brief introductions to these two gentlemen:
Andrew Lewis
Andy earned a master of music degree in conducting at the Eastman
School of Music and a bachelor of music degree in music theory at Northwestern.
He was awarded a scholarship for independent study with Daniel Barenboim
in Germany in September 1993. He currently is artistic director for
Bella Voce, music director of the Elgin Choral Union, founder and artistic
director of the Janus Ensemble, conductor of the Women's Choral Ensemble
at UIC, cover/assistant conductor of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra,
cantor (music director) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Evanston, and
conductor of the Blum Chapel Choir of Anshe Emet Synagogue in Chicago.
Among his past positions, he served as lecturer in conducting at the
DePaul University School of Music and artistic director of the Lutheran
Choir of Chicago.
Bruce Barber
Bruce earned a master’s degree in music from the Yale University
School of Music and the Institute of Sacred Music. He holds a BA from
Rollins College. Currently, he is director of cathedral music at Saint
James Episcopal Cathedral in Chicago, where he is also the principal
organist and artistic director for the Cathedral Concert Series. Bruce
also has served as substitute conductor for Apollo Chorus rehearsals.
He formerly was director of cathedral music and cathedral organist
at the Cathedral Church of Saint John Episcopal in Albuquerque, New
Mexico, conducting three choirs. During his career he has conducted
a wide range of sacred music for choir and orchestra, ranging from
Bach to Beethoven, Brahms to Durufle, Bernstein, and Stravinsky. Bruce
also is a professional organist and has performed with the Chicago
Symphony Orchestra.
The Music Director Search Committee thanks all of us who were present
last Tuesday to rehearse with David Stech and Dan Robinson—and
to complete the evaluation forms on both men. Next Tuesday, two more
candidates will rehearse with us here at Trinity>

Anthony Green has CDs of our November 11 concert this evening for those
of us who ordered copies. The cost is $15.00; make out checks
to Bill Stribling. Cash is also accepted--preferably in the exact
amount.
Len Barker is still trying to get his NSCS address book in final shape. All
members should have received an email yesterday regarding tonight’s
rehearsal. Anyone who did not—or who got more than one—is
urged to contact him ASAP so that next time all messages will go to
the right places in the right numbers.
For something in next Tuesday’s Blue Notes, contact
Len at 847/272-2351 or lenpbarker@comcast.net. (Remember that this
is his new email address.)
