BLUE
NOTES FOR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2007
This evening, the
Music Director Search Committee is pleased to welcome the first two
of the eight applicants who will be conducting rehearsals of both Gloria and Elijah.
At the end of each session, all members are asked to complete the
evaluation forms they have been given. Here are brief introductions
to these two gentlemen:
J. David Štech
David earned a
master’s degree in orchestral conducting from Northwestern
University and a BA in organ performance and choral conducting at
California State University, Chico. In 2003 he was awarded the Leonard
Bernstein Fellowship at the Tanglewood Music Center, where he studied
conducting with Kurt Masur, Christoph von Dohnányi, and Michael Morgan,
former assistant conductor of the CSO. David is music director of
the American Opera Group and the Chicago Choral Artists. He is also
music director and organist of the United Church of Hyde Park, vocal
coach at Roosevelt University, and staff accompanist at Roosevelt
University, DePaul University, and the Chicago Children’s Choir,
where he also serves as assistant conductor.
Dan Robinson
Dan earned a DMA
in orchestra conducting and an MA in musicology at Stanford University.
He holds a BA from Harvard. He currently directs two choirs at St.
John Cantius in Chicago and is directing music for a show at City
Lit in Chicago. He has been a guest conductor for Bella Voce, and
music director for the Savoy-Aires and PARIGASS, a Gilbert and Sullivan
group in Park Ridge. He was founder of Basically Bach, a professional
period instrument orchestra and chorus, and served as its music director
throughout its eight-year existence. Other past positions include
assistant professor of music at Kenyon College and the College of
Wooster, both in Ohio. He also was founder and music director of
the Stanford Savoyards, which is still going strong.
Next Tuesday, two
more applicants will be present (at Trinity!) to rehearse with us.
