NOTES FOR TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2008
BENEFIT
Just nine more weeks until An Evening of Rising Stars!The
Benefit Committee presents us and our families and friends with this
opportunity not only to enjoy vocal performances by some of the Chicago
area’s best young voices but also, at the same time, to raise
money sowe may continue presenting the kinds of quality programs for
which we are known. A yellow page is now available with all the details
and opportunities to help make this occasion both fun and “fundy.” Each
of us needs to find at least one-and-oneway to be a part of this occasion.
REHEARSAL SCHEDULE
Next Tuesday, September 16, the entire chorus will meet to rehearse
from 7:30 until the break. At that time, the men may leave
while the ladies remain and continue to sing. On the following Tuesday,
September 23, the ladies may leave after the break, and the men will
stay.
NEW MEMBERS
Please welcome these folks who sang with us last week for the first
time: Pat English, Ann Gannon, Steve LaTour, Scott Paine, and Bob
Zahniser.

SOLOISTS
The four soloists for the November concert are Laura Heimes, soprano;
Nina Heebink, mezzo-soprano; Trevor Mitchell, tenor; and Ryan O’Mealey,
baritone.

one. By mail, be sure to affix a 42-cent stamp.

Social Chair Yael Wurmfeld is looking for volunteers to provide juice

T-SHIRTS
The tenors got there first, but the rest of us will have an opportunity
to catch up with t-shirts for our sections as well. Information for
ordering will come from our VP for Fundraising, Hank Bohanen. Shirts
come in a variety of colors and are printed with SOPRANO, ALTO, or
BASS on the front and NORTH SHORE CHORAL SOCIETY, EVANSTON, IL on
the back. Each costs $25.00—with $10.00 of that amount
a donation to NSCS.
ORGAN CONCERT
This coming Sunday, September 14, David Schrader will present an organ
recital following the 4:00 P.M. Evensong service at St. Luke’s
Episcopal Church, 939 Hinman Avenue in Evanston.
KOBE COLLEGE CONCERTS
To celebrate the centennial of its Department of Music, three faculty
members and four rising artists from Kobe College in Nishinomiya,
Japan, will give two concerts in the Chicago area this coming
weekend: at noon on Friday, September 12, at the Fourth Presbyterian
Church in Chicago; at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 13, at the
Skokie Public Library. The program will include the vocal, piano,
and flute music of Chopin, Debussy, Mozart, Puccini, and Ravel as
well asJapanese composers.. The concert is free of charge. David
Larson, NSCS Music Director from 1973 to 1984, not only served as
president of Kobe College Corporation-Japan Education Exchange but
was also a professor of music at Kobe College for ten years. More

BAROUE CONCERTS
The Callipygian Players, Chicago's finest chamber music ensemble on
periodinstruments, will perform music by Monteverdi, Legrenzi, and
others on Friday, September 26, and Sunday, September 28.DavidSchrader,
organ, and Craig Trompeter, cello, will be joined by guestviolinist
Rachel Barton Pine, soprano soloists Julia Davids and OrnaArania,mezzo-soprano
Nina Heebink, tenor Stephen Noon, and bass Benjamin LeClair.Martin
Davids will lead a concert of some of Italy's finest vocal andinstrumental
music from the early Baroque, including Giovanni Legrenzi'sLauda
Jerusalem for three sopranos, edited by Julia Davids. The Friday
concert begins at 7:30 P.M. at Loyola University’s Madonna
dellaStrada Chapel, 6525 North Sheridan Road in Chicago. The Sunday
concert begins at 3:30 P.M. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1024
Lake Avenue in Wilmette. Both concerts are free to the public.
