BLUE NOTES FOR TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2009

The 2009-2010 Membership Guide is available. Thanks to Ellen Pullin and Anthony Green for preparing it. Take a few minutes to look it over. The six Section Coordinators’ names and contact information are there; please keep them handy in case you need to call about an absence. The attendance policy is included as well—and is reprinted here for good measure:

Singers are strongly encouraged to attend all rehearsals, which are held on Tuesdays from 7:30 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. They are expected to be in their seats and ready to sing by 7:30 and should remain for the entire rehearsal. Singers who need to miss a rehearsal should, whenever possible, let their section leaders know in advance.  In case of emergency, they should contact their section leaders as soon as they are able.  Persons who do not feel well enough to sing but are well enough to attend a rehearsal are encouraged to sit behind the choir and follow along, taking notes in their music.  Singers who miss more than two rehearsals must contact the Music Director to discuss concert participation. Attendance at the dress rehearsal for each concert is mandatory.

Please wear your nametag this evening—and all evenings till Julia learns who we are.  Extras are located in the Gathering Place. If you need a permanent one, sign up this evening.

Needed: Two or three people who will arrive every Tuesday evening at around 7:15 to help set up the sanctuary for rehearsals: piano, podium, microphone, whatever—and then remain a few minutes afterward to clear them way.  See Len to volunteer your services.

The sign-up sheet to bring juice for rehearsal breaks is available this evening: name and telephone number, please. Two 64-ounce bottles of juice—any variety—are needed each week.  Cookies and other goodies are welcome as well. Remember that juice sales added over $500.00 to our coffers last year. Thanks to everyone who has offered in the past and especially to Yael Wurmfeld for again overseeing this refreshing and remunerative respite.

Extra brochures for the new season are available in the narthex.  Take some to pass out to family, friends, acquaintances, strangers, whomever.  If they’re mailed, a 44-cent stamp is required, and a bit of Scotch tape to seal up the loose pages is recommended. Please take only as many as will be used.

The NSCS Board of Directors meets at 9:00 A.M this coming Saturday, September 12, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1235 Wilmette Avenue.  Any member may attend or give agenda items to President David Hunt.

Blue Notes provides an opportunity for all members to bring NSCS and other musical information to the attention of the chorus.  One of its major purposes is to cut down on the number and length of break announcements—and therefore allow more time for rehearsing. Please take time to read the Notes carefully, for often they contain need-to-know messages.  To place something in Blue Notes, contact Len at lenpbarker@comcast.net or 847/272-2351 no later than the Monday noon prior to a Tuesday rehearsal. And remember that each week’s Blue Notes is available on our web site:  www.northshorechoral.org. Thanks to Mars Longden for providing us with hard copies and to Jim Miller for the electronic versions.
