BLUE NOTES FOR TUESDAY,
MAY 24, 2005
On Thursday of this
week (that's just two days from now), we will convene here for a piano
rehearsal with David Hoose, who will conduct the Beethoven Ninth in
place of Larry Rachleff. It's very important to be on time-even a little
early, if possible, in order to be ready to sing at 7:30.
NOTE THIS CHANGE
IN THE WEEKEND SCHEDULE: Please be at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall on both
Saturday and Sunday mornings at 10:00 to warm up with Donald
before our rehearsals with the Chicago Philharmonic. The Sunday evening
arrival time is still 6:30 .
An informal get-together
after Sunday's concert is on tap at the Celtic Knot, 626 Church Street
, between Orrington and Chicago Avenues, across the street from the Evanston
Library. It's little more than a stone's throw from Pick-Staiger, and parking
is available in the lot behind the library and in a nearby garage. The
restaurant staff is looking forward to serving us-up until midnight . (After
that, we're on our own.) Credit for suggesting this gathering goes to Myra
Sieck, who looks forward to many of us joining her there.
Jewel Shop & Share
Days are coming up soon: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, June 6, 7, and
8. Coupons are available this evening and will be again on Thursday. Let's
remember to SHOP and do our SHARE.
A CD of the Beethoven
will be available for us to hear at our listening party on Tuesday, May
31. A volunteer to host that party is needed; see David Hunt or Len Barker
if interested. Additional CDs are not available for purchase.
Look for us in Thursday's
editions of North Shore Pioneer Press papers (the Evanston Review et
al.). With a photo yet! Thanks to Lenore Dupuis for making this happen.
Anyone who does
not have a black music folder for use at Sunday's concert may borrow one
from Gary Hendrickson at tonight's rehearsal, on a first-come/first-served
basis.
As some of us already
know, Steve Warner will not be singing this concert with us. His latest
CT scan showed a spot on his lung, and surgery is scheduled for this Friday.
Certainly he will appreciate our best wishes-perhaps a personal contact:
address: 930 Elmwood Avenue , Evanston 60202 ; phone: 847/866-7396; email:
rswarner@uic.edu.
One additional detail
for our upcoming season: The Shostakovich concert with the Northbrook Symphony
Orchestra will be on Sunday, May 7, 2006, in the Center for the Performing
Arts at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook .
