BLUE
NOTES FOR TUESDAY, MAY 19, 2009
From Tickets Chair Anne Harkonen: “The Ethereal Light is
going to be rather dim unless members like you purchase tickets now.
Believe it or not, only three dates remain to buy tickets at the advanced
price - tonight, next Tuesday, and the Saturday dress rehearsal. Regular
tickets are $22, senior tickets are $20, and student tickets are $12. Your
friends and relations will be eternally grateful for the opportunity
to hear our angelic voices singing ethereal music.”
From Patrons Chair Steve Warner: “I am honored to report that,
due to the great generosity of NSCS members and friends, the spring’s
donations have met the ambitious goal set by our 2008-2009 budget. Warm
thanks to all who contributed their time, their talents, and their
treasure to this effort.”
Next Tuesday we will once again rehearse in Trinity’s lower
level Fellowship Hall. That means once again help is needed to move
tables and set up chairs. And thanks to those of us who arrived
early tonight to help with same.
Anyone needing complimentary tickets for our concert should see Len
ASAP.
Our mandatory dress rehearsal at Saint Luke’s for Ethereal
Light on Saturday, May 30, begins at 9:00 A.M. and lasts till
12:45 P.M., with a couple of breaks. As usual, we’ll
want to arrive early in order to locate our locations.
Anyone who does not have a copy of David’s program notes for Ethereal
Light should be sure to pick up a copy tonight. And then
read it, of course. A few postcards remain as well.
This coming Sunday, May 24, David conducts Vaughan Williams' 5
Mystical Songs at The First Presbyterian Church in Libertyville.
The work will be performed by the Chancel Choir and orchestra, and
features baritone soloist Robert Orth. It will be presented during
worship at the 10:00 hour. See David with any questions.
Again this year, Chicago Summer Sings offers three Tuesday evenings
in June when singers and listeners can gather to enjoy favorite choral
works at First United Church in Oak Park. On June 9, it’s Haydn’s The
Creation, conducted by William Chin. On June 16, Bach ‘s Magnificat and
Poulenc’s Gloria, conducted by Martha Swisher. On June
23, Gilbert & Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore, with Dennis
Northway conducting. All performances begin at 7:00 P.M. Tickets
are $10.00 to sing or to listen. Music can be rented for $2.00—or
bring your own. For more information, call 708/386-5215, ext. 39.
On Friday and Saturday, June 5 and 6, at 8:00 P.M., the All-Village
Singers presents The Many Moods of Broadway at the Northbrook
Theater, 3323 Walters Avenue in Northbrook. Tickets for this program,
directed by Ingrid Lestrud, are $15.00 in advance, $20.00 at
the door. Call 847/328-2358 or 847/869-9794.
