Many
thanks to the Nominating Committee for its successful efforts to
provide leadership for our next season: Chair Harry Vroegh,
Jane Kenamore, Nick Krupp, Erica Sufritz, and John Summerhays.
In
Anne Harkonen’s absence, Len Barker will be selling tickets
for the June 10 concert this evening during the break following the
business meeting.
Thanks
to Kay Rossiter and Kent Fuller for providing us with juice this
evening.
The
NSCS website had a record number of visitors in April --- 2,121,
to be exact. Of these, 260 downloaded the March concert program,
and 182 checked the About page. Complete results are posted at http://www.northshorechoral.org/stats.html.
Postcards
announcing our June 10 concert are available during the break this
evening. Remember if you mail one, it now takes a 26-cent stamp. Posters
will be ready next week but probably earlier via email.
From
Jane Kenamore: “We hear ticket sales are down, but at least
someone appreciates our music. When we were away a few weeks
ago, our house was robbed. The thief left our bicycles and
other notable items, but he stole all my jewelry, the TV set, the
laptop, and...my husband's ticket for our last concert. Hope
he or she enjoys the performance!”
The
22nd Midwest Sacred Harp Singing Convention will be held on Saturday
and Sunday, May 26 and 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. both days,
on the third floor of Ida Noyes Hall, 1212 East 59th Street on the
University of Chicago campus. Dinner on the grounds will be
served at noon. There is no charge, but a free-will offering
will be taken. First time singers are always welcome, and songbooks
are available on loan or for purchase. Sacred Harp is a 160-year-old
tradition of a cappella singing. No instruments other than
the human voice are employed; there are no rehearsals and no audience
(although anyone is welcome to listen). Everyone is invited
to sing, loudly and joyously, facing one another. For more information,
visit fasola.org or call Steve Warner (847/866-7396).
