Blue Notes for Tuesday, May 2, 2006

Tomorrow evening, we rehearse with the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra at Glenbrook North High School, beginning at 7:30 P.M.   The "How To Get There" map is repeated this week on the reverse side of this page.

The "possible extra" rehearsals for the Schumann, scheduled for May 15 and 22, and June 5, begin at 7:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church on Golf Road.

Thanks to those of you who have volunteered to participate in the Pioneer Press Q & A column.  Anyone still interested should contact Lenore Dupuis at lkdnscs@aol.com.

Thanks to Ginny Roeder, who again his year supplied copies of the NSCS brochure for the Evanston Arts booth at last weekend's Chicago Arts Fair.

During the week following the Shostakovich concert, our spring patron mailings will go out, asking for donations to help bankroll our 2007-2008 concert season.  An announcement regarding this important event will be made on Tuesday, May 9.

On Tuesday, May 16, elections of next year's officers and other Board members will be held.  These are the nominees:

President: David Hunt                            VP Operations: Julie McDowell

VP Concerts: Tom Keller                        VP Public Relations: Karen Rigotti

VP Fund Raising: Hank Bohanon            Treasurer: Wylie Crawford

Secretary: Nancy Friday             Director At Large: Anthony Green

Director At Large: John Shea                 Director At Large: Susan Wiegand

And on Tuesday, May 23, revisions to the NSCS by-laws will be voted on.

From Harry Vroegh: While the proletariat of the Awktyabr revolution are marching and demanding bread, let us NSCS capitalists march to our local Dominick stores on May 8, 9, and 10 and stock up on some fine Russian caviar, vodka, borscht, and other high-priced delicacies so we may be led to financial victory thanks to the 5% return on all our purchases. Thank you--and Bawrba!

The next meeting of the NSCS Board will be held on Saturday, May 20, at 9:00 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1235 Wilmette Avenue. Anyone wishing to schedule an agenda item should speak to President David Hunt.

Evanston's Bach Week is soon upon us: May 5, 7, 12, and 14.  To receive more information or to order tickets, go to www.bachweek.com or call 800/595-4849.  All performances are at the Music Institute of Chicago in Evanston.

Margie Skelly thanks those NSCS members who helped sponsor her in the REST Sleepwalk 2006 and is happy to donate ten percent of their contributions to NSCS.

On Sunday, June 4, the Chicago Children's Choir presents its Spring Gala Concert at the Harris Theater, beginning at 3:00 P.M. Directed by Josephine Lee, the Choir sings an "inspiring ensemble of songs from around the world" in addition to selections from its recent world musical, Sita Ram.  For tickets: www.harristheaterchicago.org or 312/334-7777.

There will be no Blue Notes on Tuesday, May 9.  If you have any announcements, please see David Hunt.  For something in the Blue Notes of May 16: lenpbarker@comcast.net or 847/272-2351.
