Blue Notes for Tuesday, April 27, 2004
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, May 10, 11, and 12, are the next Jewel days.
Let’s reach our goal of $1000 with the last of this season’s shopping
sprees.
Tickets for the May 23 concert are on sale this evening: $18 for regular admission,
$15 for seniors and students, $10 for youth age 12 and under.
Heed Donald’s advice to work on the Mozart and the Kroeger outside
of the regular rehearsal periods. Remember that Mozart is available at cyberbass.com.
It has been reported that, when there are discrepancies between cyberbass
and the score, the score appears to be accurate.
Chet Hall, who sang in the NSCS tenor section for some 30 years, died last
week. He is survived by his wife Joan, who also sang. She can be contacted
at their Evanston home, 2215 Orrington Avenue.
In early June, second soprano Margie Skelly will be participating in the American
Cancer Society’s Relay for Life for the third consecutive year. Thus
far, she has raised close to $300.00 and is now asking NSCS members to contribute.
Checks can be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and given
to Margie or sent to her home at 1527 West Granville Avenue, Chicago, 60660.
No amount is too small.
St. Scholastica Academy, which has opened its facilities for our rehearsal
this evening, has been educating young women with a broad range of religious
and ethnic orientations in the Chicago area for over 100 years. Many thanks
to Sister Judith Zonsius for arranging for us to rehearse here without charge.
Soprano Mary Melady, a Benedictine sister, is a member of the St. Scholastica
community; alto Alicia Resnick is a graduate of St. Scholastica.
Tonight is the NSCS’s annual business meeting, at which officers for
the 2004-2005 season are elected. These names have been put forth by the nominating
committee: President – David Hunt / Secretary – Nancy Friday /
Treasurer - Bob Brotman / Vice-President of Operations – Julie McDowell
/ Vice-President of Concerts – Tom Keller / Vice-President of Public
Relations – Sue Wiegand / Vice-President of Fund-Raising – Marj
Lundy / Members at Large – Karen Rigotti, Anthony Green, and John Shea.
Thanks again to Harry Vroegh and his committee for presenting this slate of
officers and for recruiting committee chairpersons as well.
