BLUE
NOTES FOR TUESDAY, MARCH 14, 2006
What to say about
an SRO concert that brought people to their feet applauding as though they
might never stop? Well, there are certainly many people to thank.
--first us ,
of course, for singing so wonderfully; and then
--the
Red Rose young ladies, models of vocal aplomb and performance decorum, and their
directors, Jacque and Sharon;
--Sarah,
Mark, and Andrew, who sang as though Orff had written the solos just for
them;
--the
pianists-Sharon, Phil, and Fiona-not only for providing the accompaniment
which makes us sound even better but also for displaying their
keyboard artistry;
--the
percussionists, who banged and clanged and jangled with such variety and virtuosity
and to such resounding effect;
--Tom
Keller and his set-up/take-down crew, which included many of us and several
audience members as well;
--Paul
Siegal, for fulfilling our many ticket requests, and his box office crew--Jamie
Godshalk, Margarete Hendrickson, and Judy Barker--for efficiently and tactfully
handling the onrush of eager customers;
--Linda
Keller and her ushers (especially Florence Lazerson, helping out in spite
of limited mobility), who seemed to find
seats for nearly everyone in spite
of being short handed;
--Ron
Tolisano, who seemed to do everything except sing;
--Marcia
Bollo and Ellen Pullin, who once again put all that information and all those
ads into a program that has class without pretense;
--Donald
Draganski, for his carefully researched and well-written program notes;
--Ryan
Stremke, for designing our posters, and those of us who put them on display;
--Lenore
Dupuis and Pat Seidl, who spread the word;
-- Northminster
Church , for making us so welcome for rehearsals;
--the
folks at Saint Luke's, for their assistance in presenting this concert;
--Bill
Stribling, for recording the concert and providing the CDs;
--Anthony
Green (in advance), for making those CDs available soon;
--others
who probably should be thanked but didn't make today's cut;
--and
Donald Chen, who has guided us and cajoled us and borne with us and believed
in us (more than we deserve, sometimes) in a season set on proving that celebrating
a seventieth birthday has nothing to do with growing old.

MEMBERS OF THE NORTH SHORE CHORAL SOCIETY:
The Annual Business Meeting of the Society will be held
at the evening rehearsal on May 16. At this meeting, the membership will elect
a Board of Directors, consisting of seven officers and three directors at large,
to hold office for the 2006-2007 concert year. The officers to be elected are
President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice-Presidents for Operations, for Concerts,
for Public Relations, and for Fund Raising.
A five-member Nominating Committee has been appointed to
nominate candidates for these offices and for the three Directors at Large.
Self nominating is acceptable; should you wish to be considered for nomination
for any of these positions, please contact any member of the Nominating Committee
(listed below).
The Nominating Committee also has been asked to search for
section coordinators and for candidates to serve as committee chairs. Committee
chairs are not elected; they are appointed, and each is responsible to a particular
elected vice-president. Several current holders of office positions or chairs
are willing to continue to serve the NSCS for another season. Others have commented
that they could use "understudies" or assistants with their responsibilities.
Thus, if you know of someone who is caring, dependable, and willing to make
a commitment, or if you yourself are ready to become more involved in the NSCS,
please consider volunteering your name or that of another member who would
like to serve.
The Nominating Committee has detailed job descriptions for
officers, directors, and committee chairs; these descriptions are available
upon request. A list of the various positions can be found in our Membership
Guide on our website www.northshorechoral.org .
Among the several positions that need to be filled are these:
Three chairpersons who report to the Vice-President
of Concerts: Concert Manager, House Manager (not a
singer), and Ticket Manager
Vice-President for Fund Raising, Patrons Chairperson,
and Benefit Chairperson
Dominick's and Jewel/Osco Days Coordinator (position
starts January 1, 2007)
Social Chairperson to co-ordinate juice servers
at rehearsals and the welcome party for new members
There are opportunities for other positions as well. So
don't be bashful ! Let us know of any interest you may have.
Thank you for volunteering !
