Special Edition of Blue Notes for Saturday, February 28, 2004

Donald Chen says: “Please be seated and ready to warm up for tomorrow’s concert no later than 1:15 P.M.”

Tom Keller says: “Help is needed to take down today’s set-up at about 2:00—and to put it back in place at 12:30 tomorrow—and to take it down again after the concert. Many hands make short work.”

Wylie Crawford says: “Please join me and my wife Erica for the post-concert party at 7:30 on Tuesday, March 2. Come to 701 Sheridan Road prepared to eat, drink, chat—and, of course, listen.”

Len Barker says: “Today is the last chance to buy tickets for tomorrow’s concert at the advanced sale price. I have plenty. Our sales total as of today is about 175. A special thanks to Jamie Godshalk for taking charge of the box office for tomorrow’s concert. And if you have any items for the next edition of Blue Notes on March 9, please contact me at 847/272-2351 or lenpbarker@comcast.net.”

Anthony Green says: “Northwestern’s School of Music has announced that the organ major program will be closed at the end of the school year. The Department has trained organists and church musicians for over 100 years and is nationally recognized as one of the finest. If you are interested in signing a petition urging that this decision be reversed, please see me.”

Gary Hendrickson says: “Music for the May concert will be available at the listening party (See above.) and at the first rehearsal on March 9. The cost for the two pieces is $15. Please bring a check or cash, preferably in the exact amount.”

Sharon Peterson says; “On Saturday, March 6, at 7:00 P.M., the National Danish Performance Team will perform in the Viking Gymnasium on the campus of North Park University, Kedzie at Foster in Chicago. Admission to this grand display of gymnastics, tumbling, modern dance, and clowns is $12.00 ($8.00 for students). VIP tickets, which include a reception, door prizes, and reserved seats, can be purchased for $100.00. You may contact Dr. Charles Peterson (That’s my husband.) at NPU’s Center for Scandinavian Studies, 773/244-5615 or cpeterson@northpark.edu.”

Bob Brotman says: “If you didn’t get an opportunity on Tuesday to pick up a copy of and look at the handout which presents NSCS’s current financial situation, please do so. Additional copies are available today. Another report will be made available this spring. See me if you have any questions or comments.”

Fran Langewisch says: “There are plenty of openings for juice servers in the coming weeks. Please let me know ASAP if you’re willing to take a turn at the refreshment table during our rehearsal breaks in March.”

BUY TICKETS NOW!   Blue Notes, February 24, 2004

By the end of last week's rehearsal, only 105 tickets for this week's concert had been sold. Let's try to at least double that number by Sunday.  Tickets are available tonight and again at Saturday's "dress" rehearsal.  That's $18 regular; $15 students and seniors; $10 youth.  If you know of someone who should receive complimentary tickets, let Len Barker know immediately.

An up-to-date NSCS financial report is available on the back table.  Please take a copy, read it carefully, and considerate its implications for the rest of our concert year.

Saturday's "dress" rehearsal begins promptly at 10:00.  Come early to stake out your territory.

New ladies, be sure to have your concert dress by Sunday.  See Julie McDowell with any questions.

HELP NEEDED:     --to set up for the Saturday rehearsal at 4:00 P.M. on Friday

--to take down after the Saturday rehearsal (The men will be excused about 12:45; some need to stay or come back at 2:00 after the ladies rehearse the Persichetti.)

--to set up on Sunday at 12:30 P.M.

--to take down on Sunday after the performance

Wylie and Erica Crawford invite Society members and spouses/special friends to their home for the post-concert listening party on Tuesday, March 2, at 7:30.  Bring munchies, desserts, drinks to 701 Sheridan Road, halfway between South Boulevard (Oakton) and Main Street.

Thanks again to these choristers who were responsible for preparing, printing, and mailing the postcards which went out to nearly 2500 potential ticket-buyers last week: Joan Daughtery, Mars Longden, Julie McDowell, Tom Keller, Bob Brotman, and Len Barker.

Black music folders embossed with North Shore Choral Society and your name are still available for $15.00.  See Gary Hendrickson if you wish to order one.

Singers (except for sopranos) are needed for a performance of Carmina Burana with the Civic Symphony and Chorus of Park Ridge.  Rehearsals begin on Monday, March 1, at the Emerson School, Oakton and Prospect.  Call Roseanne at 847/292-0969 for details.

It's time to think JUICE for our rehearsal breaks.  Sign up with Fran this evening.

Those Messiah note cards will be on sale again at Sunday's concert, just in case you didn't get around to purchasing them earlier-or want to purchase more.  Only $10.00 for twenty quality cards and envelopes.  And $5.00 of that is a donation to NSCS.

A number of postcards remain unsent.  Why not take a bunch this evening to pass out to friends, colleagues, neighbors, cousins, in-laws, commuter companions, store clerks, repairmen, fellow church choir members, strangers you meet on the street during the next few days?

Want something in Blue Notes?  Contact Len Barker at 847/272-2351 or lenpbarker@comcast.net.
