Blue Notes for Tuesday,
January 22, 2008
N.B. The rehearsal of Gloria with Larry Eckerling
on Monday, March 3, will be held in the sanctuary of Northminster
Presbyterian Church instead of at Trinity Lutheran as previously
indicated.
Have you tried cyberbass.com to assist with at-home
Poulenc rehearsals? If not, why not give it a shot. It
can be very helpful.
Not to worry! Len Barker is in communication with his counterpart
in the Evanston Symphony Orchestra regarding getting to the correct
cafeteria in Evanston Township High School on the evening of Tuesday,
March 11. That information will be made available soon.
Juice during our breaks does not magically appear each Tuesday. Two
people are needed each week to bring two bottles of juice (each) of
their choice; other goodies are not expected. See Yael Wurmfeld
during this evening’s break to offer your services. Or call her
at 847/763-1314. Remember that NSCS makes several hundred dollars each
year from the “sale” of these refreshments.
On February 10, William Chin directs the Symphony Chorus in Brahms’ A
German Requiem at the First United Church, 848 Lake Street.
Marcy Stonikas and Douglas Anderson are soloists. Pre-concert conversations
are at 3:00 P.M.; seating begins at 3:30 for the 4:00 concert. NSCS
members William Geuss and Frank Perry are participating in this concert,
which also includes Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17,
performed by David Schrader.
On Sunday, February 3, at 4:00 P.M., the Unitarian Church of Evanston
hosts a choir festival. Participating choirs include those from UCE,
the North Shore Unitarian Church, Bahai Temple, and the Unity Temple
of Oak Park. Though admission is free, donations will be accepted
for Doctors Without Borders. (Yes, the program will conclude in time
for the Super Bowl,)
The Sing To Live Community Choir presents its first concert of 2008
on Saturday, February 16, at 7:30 P.M. Titled Songs of Inspiration,
this program—held at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Oak
Park—includes a variety of inspirational songs that span religions,
countries, and cultures. Oto Carillo, French horn player with
the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, is a special guest. Tickets are $20.00
and may be purchased at the door. For additional information, call
773/250-SING.
Susan Young, director of the Y’All Come choir, invites us to
join that group for a performance of Sing for the Cure, presented
as a breast cancer awareness concert. In this work, choral movements,
accompanied by a full orchestra, are interspersed with poetic narratives.
Two performances are scheduled: Saturday, June 7, at 7:30 P.M., and
Sunday, June 8, at 3:00 P.M. Registration is open through January 28.
Rehearsals are on Monday evenings at the Northbrook Leisure Center. For
more information, call Sue at 847/291-2960, ext. 165, or 847/625-8888.
Last call for Don Draganski’s program notes on Gloria,
now in the narthex.
