Blue
Notes for Tuesday, January 16, 2007
At
our March concert, sopranos will sing Ron Nelson’s Three
Settings of the Moon (“The Moon Does Not Sleep,” “Autumn
Lullaby for the Moon,” and “Ask the Moon”)
with text by Thomas E. Ahlburn. Donald will have a detailed rehearsal
schedule for us next Tuesday.
Webmaster
Jim Miller reports that, since our web site was moved to a commercial
hosting company in September, it has had 6,000 visitors. Statistics
for the past three months are available at http://www.northshorechoral.org/stats.html. Here
are some highlights from the December report:

Our
juice providers this evening are Dan Woodard and Lucinda Fuller.
There are still opportunities to sign up for future Tuesdays. See
the list at the juice table. And thanks to those of us
who have already signed up and who regularly drink and contribute.
The
Search Committee, charged with the responsibility of hiring a
music director to succeed Donald, will begin meeting soon. Anyone
with ideas or suggestions should contact Tom Keller, the Committee’s
chair, or one of its other members: Len Barker, David Crumrine, Joan
Daugherty, Lucinda Fuller, David Hunt, Julie McDowell, Karen
Rigotti, and Sue Wiegand.
Looking
ahead to next season: We will collaborate with the Evanston
Symphony Orchestra on one concert, probably in March, probably
at Pick-Staiger. One of the works on the program will
be Poulenc’s Gloria, with Michelle Areyzaga as
soloist.
The
International Music Foundation, which sponsors the Do-It-Yourself Messiah at
the Civic Opera House, has 100 t-shirts—in large and extra-large
sizes—remaining to be sold. These shirts, at $15.00
each, help to support this and other free programs. Anyone
who attended one of these performances but did not buy a t-shirt
is encouraged—urged!--to call 312/670-6888 and place an
order. Shipping is free for anyone buying two shirts. As
Ann Murray, the director of IMF, said in her opening remarks
at the performances, “Here’s a chance to Look Good
and Do Good at the same time: Buy a shirt and support our free
programs.”

Things
to ponder:
If
electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?
Can
a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane?
If
a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?
What
disease did cured ham actually have?
If
corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables,
what is baby oil made
from?
