BLUE NOTES FOR TUESDAY, JANUARY 11, 2005

Next Monday's special rehearsal begins at 7:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church , 3637 Golf Road in Skokie . Two other Monday rehearsals are scheduled for January 31 and February 7, again at Trinity Lutheran.

A few copies of the holiday concert CD are still available; see Anthony Green. And practice CDs-containing the spoken text of the Haydn and the choral section of the Beethoven-may be purchased during this evening's break for only $2.00. And name tags for new members and others who need them are also ready.

Please welcome again the four new members who joined us a week ago: alto Barbara Weiner, and sopranos Ronnie McCarron, Diane Rasmussen, and Christine McGuire.

Only three months away-and so much to be done! That's the BENEFIT and its main moneymaker, the SILENT AUCTION, on Saturday, April 9, right here in the Unitarian Church . Items for the auction are welcome at any time, so why not get started NOW!? Some ideas:

--dinners at a favorite restaurant;

--tickets for a concert, an opera, or a play;

--accumulated frequent flier miles;

--gift certificates from book and music stores;

--tickets to a sporting event;

--membership in a health club;

--a weekend in the city;

--a case of wine.

As most of you know, last spring Donald asked each of us to sign an agreement indicating our willingness to commit to the performance of Beethoven's Ninth with the Chicago Philharmonic (then, Symphony II). Most of us have made this commitment; some, however, have not. If you have not, please pick up a copy of Donald's memo "Performing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony" and a copy of the agreement from the back table. After reading the memo, please sign the agreement and turn it in to Len Barker.

That pair of black Thermolite gloves, found after our December 14 rehearsal, is still unclaimed.

Hum your way to health: A recent study reveals that humming appears to help ventilate the nasal passages. Moving air through the nasal passages and sinuses and keeping them well-ventilated could lower one's risk of sinus infections and sinusitis, a chronic inflammatory sinus condition. (So why not just hum the Haydn?)

An invitation has been extended to attend Evanston 's annual celebration of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Sunday, January 16, from 4:00 to 6:00 , at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center , 1655 Foster Street . And on Saturday, January 19, the Center presents a liturgical dance concert celebrating Black History Month at the Levy Senior Center , 300 Dodge Street . For information call 847/328-4540.
